Purim means ‘Lottery’ in Persian. 1. Why call a Jewish holiday by a Persian name? 2. Furthermore, the lottery refers to the lots Haman drew to determine the date of the destruction of the Jewish people. Why call the holiday by a name that takes us back to the negative part of the story, rather than a name which reflects our victory?! 3. The lottery was an irrelevant part of the story of Purim altogether. So why is ‘lottery - Purim’ its name?! Nothing on this tape is fixed. It’s a win - win situation.
